About the League

Encouraging Informed and Active Participation in Government

The League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County is a nonprofit, nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Formed one year after the national League of Women Voters was born out of the suffrage movement in 1920, the League of Women Voters has been at the forefront of numerous civic initiatives and accomplishments.

Membership

With approximately 420 members throughout King County, the League is one of the largest local LWV chapters in the United States. We are a volunteer, member-driven organization; anyone over 16 years of age may become a voting member. Non-voting memberships are available to all others. Joining the League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County automatically confers membership at state and national levels.

Discrimination or harassment of any kind will not be accepted within the League, including but not limited to race, socio-economic status, age, ability status, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, gender, or marital status. The League is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging for all people. The collective sum of our individual differences and life experiences represents not only our culture, but our reputation and the organization's mission and achievements as well.
